Classification and ranking of water beetle communities in Britain 1992

Abstract

Aquatic Coleoptera, as a group, posses all of the attributes needed for evaluation of the conservation status of wetland sites (Foster 1987). Based on the water beetle recording scheme run by the Balfour-Browne Club, this report classifies British aquatic habitats in seven regions of Britain by their beetle assemblage, and ranks the recorded sites according to their conservation importance.
