Post background

JNCC is the public body that advises the UK Government and devolved administrations on UK-wide and international nature conservation. We have approximately 180 science and technical staff across a wide range of disciplines, based mainly in Peterborough and Aberdeen. Additional administrative support is required to assist with all aspects of the work carried out by JNCC. 


Post Duties

Administrative staff are based both within the Administrative Services team or with the other corporate services teams (Finance, IT and HR).  Duties could include any of the following, depending on requirements and individual expertise.


Administrative Services – Sourcing and booking travel accommodation, intranet and internet updates, managing paper and electronic records, organising internal and external meetings, purchasing goods and services using the electronic procurement card, reception cover, supporting other corporate services teams;


IT – providing first line helpdesk and mailbox support, managing and supporting the operation and maintenance of all IT and telephony equipment, undertaking routine technical tasks required to maintain availability of the JNCC network, undertaking routine data management tasks.


Finance – Preparing and processing financial information, checking and matching purchase orders against purchase invoices and internal expense forms, raising sales invoices, producing financial reports, reconciling financial information;


HR – supporting all aspects of HR administration, including recruitment, payroll and learning and development;



Specialist/ professional knowledge and skills

  • Experience of providing general administrative support (Essential)
  • A good understanding of Windows and the Microsoft Office 365 and Skype for Business (Desirable)
  • Ability to collate and process financial and other data confidently and accurately (Desirable)

£18,265 per annum

Hours of work
Normal hours of work for the post are 36 hours per week over a 5-day period, Monday to Friday.  Flexi time is available

Annual Leave Entitlement

The annual leave allowance is 25 days per year, rising to 30 days per year after 5 years service.  There are also 12 days public and privilege leave.  Staff appointed on a part time basis will receive this pro rata.
