The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI) gives the public a
right of access to information held by all public authorities in

The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR) deals with
environmental information held by public authorities in England,
Northern Ireland and Wales.
The purpose of the Acts is to make public bodies, such as JNCC
more transparent and accountable. The right to information is
subject to certain exemptions and exceptions which are considered
on a case by case basis with consideration of the public interest
