Recording Cards
The Recording cards within Recorder are based on the cards
used in the field for recording observations. The idea being that
they present a familiar format for rapid data which
are particularly useful for recording schemes and national
surveys. The cards are simple Windows text files (with a
.crd extension) which can be exchanged easily between users of
Recorder. Therefore, for a particular co-ordinated survey or
scheme, a standard recording card could be created (for example, by
the scheme organiser) and circulated to all contributors to promote
a common method of recording.
Creating a recording card
Recording cards are created within the user interface by
choosing Data Entry\Enter species for a place\Add or Edit Recording
Card. You can use taxa from the species dictionary or a rucksack to
base the recording card upon and you can select additional columns
for use on the card (latin name is automatically included).
Adding a recording card
To add a recording card to your system for use in Recorder 6
simply download the file and save it in the
Recording Cards folder of the User Files folder (usually
C:\Program Files\Recorder 6\User Files\Recording Cards but you can
check this by viewing Tools\Options\File Locations). To
transfer a recording card to other users, simply copy the file
and send it either via email or using removable hardware.
The following recording cards are now available as system
supplied on the installation DVDs from 6.14 onwards (those preceded
by 'BRC' are a direct copy of the BRC recording cards and include
the search codes for fast data entry). These cards are based on
rucksacks which can also be downloaded from the rucksacks section.
