User Files
There are a number of different types of system supplied
and user added files for use in Recorder 6 which can be shared
between systems. These are held in the User Files folder of
the Recorder 6 application and include reports, rucksacks,
recording cards and batch updates. To share a rucksack, xml
report, recording card or batch update for Recorder 6 on this
website email the file with a brief explanation (ie what is
included in the report and how it works if relevant). Email the
XML Reports
XML reports
are text files which are usually placed in the Reports
folder in the User Files folder in your
Recorder system. A number of these reports are
supplied with Recorder 6, however, if you require a report that
doesn't already exist and cannot be produced using the other
reporting facilities, there is the opportunity to develop XML
reports yourself, provided you have access to the necessary
computing skills. You could then share your report with the
Recorder communtiy via this website.
Rucksacks
The Rucksack
is a useful container in which you can keep frequently used
items. It consists of a series of lists: Taxon names, Biotope
classes, Locations, Names & Addresses or References. Rucksacks
are stored as plain text files and consist of lists of record
keys between html tags. They can be created within the user
interface or outside of Recorder and can be used to populate a
recording card or used to select the items on which to report.
Recording Cards
The Recording cards within Recorder are
based on the traditional recording cards used in the field for
recording observations. They are an efficient method of rapid data
entry within Recorder and are particularly useful for
recording schemes and national surveys, for example a standard
recording card could be created for a particular survey in order to
promote a common method of recording. The cards are simple
Windows text files (with a .crd extension) which can be
exchanged easily between users of Recorder.
Batch Updates
Batch
updates are xml files which are run in order to make specific
changes to the database. There are batch updates that delete survey
events with no samples, create designations and designation sets,
alter determination dates and move imported locations where the
system is not the custodian.
Help Updates
Help updates are .chm files named Rec20Hlp.chm
which should be used to replace the existing file of the same name
within your Recorder directory.
