Dictionary Downloads

You are strongly advised to keep the dictionaries in Recorder 6 updated to the most recent version: 0000003Uto3X.zip. To run the upgrades:

Download the dictionary upgrade kit

The Upgrade Kit was last updated in November 2011 to Recorder 6 Dictionary Upgrade Kit version. If you are using a previous version then you must download and unzip the latest files to your hard drive. Using an earlier version will  corrupt your dictionary.

Download each upgrade file

  • Download each file required by clicking on the filename below.
  • Save each file to a temporary location on your computer not \Dictionary Upgrade Kit\Scripts.
  • Unzip each file (which you intend to run) to the Scripts folder. See information below for running upgrades in batches.

Important information:

  • Make sure that the outer zip is not included in the scripts folder otherwise the upgrade will not work. For example, when running the 0000003Cto3E upgrade, the Scripts folder should contain 0000003C.zip,0000003D.zip, 0000003C.ini, 0000003D.ini and 0000003E.sql. It should not contain the file you download 0000003Cto3E.zip. If it contains the downloaded files the upgrade won’t run correctly.
  • The unzipped files will either have a .zip, .sql or .ini  file extension and will have a filename of 8 characters (eg 0000003C.zip or 0000003E.sql). Some upgrades do not have the .ini files, This will not affect the upgrade, but the progress bars will not be displayed. Do not rename any of the files and do not unzip any files twice.
  • Once you have downloaded the files needed you are ready to run the upgrade.
  • You may unzip and run several upgrades together, but it is recommended that you run 00000015to1N separately, because this is an extremely large upgrade.

PLEASE NOTE that to install dictionary upgrades 0000000J to 0000003B you must have upgraded to version 6.14.4 or above.  To install upgrades 0000003C to 0000003T you must have upgraded to 6.25.1 or above, and to install upgrades 0000003U or above you must have upgraded to 6.26.2 or above.

Run the upgrade

Double click on the DictionaryUpgrade.exe file. If you are using a trusted connection (windows authentication), then the upgrade should  proceed. Otherwise you may be requested to enter an appropriate SQL Server login. The length of time an upgrade takes depends on the number of changes it includes. They may take only a few minutes or an hour or more. After the upgrade check by opening ‘About Recorder 6’ from the R6 help menu that the ‘dictionary version’ is the latest one.

Rebuild indexes

Once the upgrade has completed go to Tools - Database Tools in Recorder 6 and rebuild the taxon name, taxon group, taxon synonym and taxon designation indexes. Note that the order in which the indexes are rebuilt is very important. Rebuild taxon name first followed by taxon group and taxon synonym and finally taxon designation. From v 6.19 onwards it is the order in which the indexes are listed in database tools.  Depending on the power of your computer(s) and the speed of your network, where applicable, the rebuild of the taxon group index may take 10 minutes or more to run. The rebuild of the other indexes should take less time. If you are separately processing multiple upgrades then the index rebuilds only need to be run after the last upgrade.

This includes a few minor updates and removes all system supplied data from taxon_designation_set_item, ready for replacement data in upgrade 0000000Y.

It also updates the Setting table, effectively removing the list key 'NBNSYS0000000112' for 'Rare marine benthic flora and fauna in Great Britain' as this list is included in the JNCC Collation list. Therefore if anyone has added any taxon list keys to this field then they will be removed by this upgrade. You must therefore replace user-added keys if required, after the upgrade has been run.

Running this script will correct the settings table and update the habitats dictionary. If you have already run 0000000M successfully you must still run this upgrade to keep your settings table correct (it simply will find nothing to update in the dictionary which is fine). Updates the Habitat Dictionary. Updates three lists (Marine Nature Conservation Review Classification, EUNIS Habitat Classification, Biodiversity Action Plan Key (Priority) Habitats) and adds three lists (Integrated Habitat System, Vegetation communities of British lakes: a revised classification, OSPAR threatened and/or declining habitats).
