Funded participation in International
conferences/workshops
JNCC is able to support the OTs and CDs with funding to attend
international conferences and workshops.
Island Invasives: Eradication and Management Conference
8th - 12th February 2010.
Rhon Connor (Anguilla Government)
attended the "Island Invasives: Eradications and Management"
conference hosted by the University of Auckland, held at the Tamaki
Campus, Auckland, New Zealand, between the 8th and 12th February
2010.
The conference was facilitated by the Centre for Biodiversity
and Biosecurity (CBB) in partnership with the World Conservation
Union (IUCN) and the Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG), and
it attracted about 250 participants from various countries around
the globe.
Rhon's attendance was made possible by JNCC funding and
supported by the Government of Anguilla.

Caribbean regional hub
The Caribbean Regional Hub is an
online network, managed by the Cayman Islands Department of
Environmnent, that JNCC supports which facilitates
professional communities with an interest in combating invasive
species, climate change and preserving biodiversity in the
Caribbean.
The long term objective of the Hub is to bring together ideas,
people, projects, experience, expertise, funds and common
resources.
Other areas of support and advice
JNCC also provides support and advice to Overseas Territories in
a number of other areas at the request of the UKOT governments.
These areas include economic valuation, climate
change, invasives species, accessing
funding, and multilateral environmental agreements.
Blue Turtle Award
JNCC runs an annual Blue Turtle Award. People are encouraged
to nominate Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies groups or
individuals who are 'making a difference'.

JNCC has contributed to projects in Anguilla including:
Public awareness and lionfish survey
In 2010, for the International Year of Biodiversity, the UK
Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), has
funded a series of invasive species projects across the UK Overseas
Territories. This has been coordinated by the Joint Nature
Conservation Committee. Project activities on Anguilla
were:
Production of News articles, Radio & TV Ads, and carry out
public surveys;
- Creation of Posters and Banners for public display;
- Design Brochures, and set up a display of live invasive
specimens, especially lion fish and other marine species;
- Conduct a Stakeholders Workshop on Invasive species;
- Survey for marine invasives Lionfish;
- Establish an interactive Invasive Species Website.

An ecological assessment of Little Scrub Island
In 2009 JNCC contributed to a research project
that focussed on an ecological assessment of little scrub
island.
