Defra have published a new Soil Strategy, which aims to ensure
England's soils continue to support food production, natural
habitats and biodiversity, and to halt the loss of soil carbon.
This is particularly important in light of the rising temperatures
and increased frequency of severe climatic events predicted as a
result of climate change. The Soil Strategy identifies factors
currently compromising soil resilience, explains existing policy
measures to achieve sustainable soil management, outlines our broad
goals for the future, and suggests some initial changes that may
improve the efficacy of existing soil protection measures. View the
