envecon 2008: Applied Environmental Economics Conference
The UK Network of Environmental Economists (UKNEE) is pleased to
announce that envecon 2008: Applied Environmental Economics
Conference will take place on Friday 14th March 2008, at
The Royal Society in London.
Now in its 6th year, this one-day conference will
bring together environmental economists from public and private
sectors, academia and consultancy to share results of recent
research and to discuss issues relevant to the practical
application of environmental economics in the UK and
elsewhere.
By creating a mutual platform for those who commission work
and those who undertake it, the conference aims to contribute to
the effective use of environmental economics for environmental
policy and management, as well as influence the research
agenda.
Call for papers
Papers are invited under a series of general themes:
- Energy and climate
- Ecosystem services and biodiversity - including the creation of
markets for ecosystem services
- Market based instruments
- Green accounting and measures of productivity
- Economic valuation: testing the theory
- Happiness and wellbeing research
Under themes 1 and 2 papers on diverse applications
of environmental economics, including cost-benefit analysis and
appraisal, inter-temporal decision-making, market-based
instruments, political economy and economic valuation, will be
considered.
Papers in themes 3 and 4 are not limited to a
particular sector and/or environmental media.
Theme 5 relates to applications of economic valuation,
where in addition to developments in methods, topics such as
attitudes towards environmental risk and presenting complex issues
in stated preference studies are of particular interest.
Papers in theme 6 are encouraged to contrast this
emerging research area with the topics and issues considered in
themes 1 to 5.
All Papers should display academic rigour and should show
evidence of practical application. We are interested in showcasing
papers that have policy relevance and have in fact been used in
decision-making by the public and/or private sectors. Papers
however do not have to be unique applications of new theory.
Evidence-based policy benefits from repeated applications.
Abstracts should be submitted by the 11
th January
2008 to
uknee@eftec.co.uk. Papers for
presentation will be selected by the Scientific Committee.
Abstracts should cover 2 sides of A4, in 12 point font, double
spaced. They should convey information on the economic theory
tested; context of the practical application (actual and/or
potential); and theoretical and/or empirical results.
