Going green on travel plans
JNCC's commitment to devising a Workplace Travel Plan wins us
an award.
The Joint Nature Conservation Committee is amongst seven
Peterborough-based organisations to be the first in the region to
be rewarded for introducing policies that encourage employees to
adopt environment-friendly travel options.
The Workplace Travel Plan Awards are administered by
Peterborough City Council's Travelchoice team, in collaboration
with the Cambridgeshire Travel for Work Partnership. Five
levels of awards provide a progressive framework for action, from
commitment, development and implementation, through to a
certificate of excellence. The awards were presented by Steve
Riches, the Breakfast Show presenter for BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.
Tracey Quince, Assistant Business Manager at JNCC, said:
"Although we are only a small organisation a lot can be done to
reduce not only the impact of travel, but also the financial
implications. We hope that by working with Travelchoice we
will be able to develop a successful travel plan and be considered
for the second stage award next year."
Nicola Francis, Workplace Travel Plan Officer in the
Travelchoice Team at Peterborough City Council, commented:
"Workplace travel plans have very real benefits for employers.
Staff that use sustainable travel options, such as walking, cycling
and public transport improve their physical and mental health,
along with the health of their bank balances! They often
become more productive at work and there is less pressure on
company car parks."
Three other organisations received first stage certificates of
commitment, along with JNCC. They were the Greater
Peterborough Primary Care Partnership, Peterborough Environment
City Trust, and Exel Spectrum (operator of the distribution centre
for Debenhams).
