Marine Recorder is the database application
JNCC and the UK’s four country conservation bodies (Natural
England, Natural Resources Wales, Scottish Natural Heritage, and
Northern Ireland Environment Agency) use to store Marine Benthic
data from surveys. It is fully compatible with the NBN data
model, enabling data to be contributed to the NBN Gateway.
In addition to the Marine Recorder
application, there are Marine Recorder modules and tools that
enable the stored data to be filtered, reported, queried,
disseminated, and merged with other Marine Recorder datasets. The
Marine Recorder application, modules and detailed manuals are
available here.
Marine Recorder data extracted from
the database into a queriable format is known
as a Snapshot. It is an Access database and does not require the
Marine Recorder application to be installed. A snapshot
available to download has been created of public
access Marine
Recorder data held by JNCC and the country conservation
bodies (NB 151 MB zip file).
Specific requests for data should be made to the relevant
country conservation body concerned.
