Latest changes to the UK SAC list

Candidate Special Areas of Conservation (cSACs) are submitted by the UK to the European Commission in batches called tranches.

November 2012

Note that this is not  a new Tranche  because tranche numbering is only used for identifying batches of changes to candidate SAC information submitted to the EU. The above change does not need to be submitted to the EU.

Tranche 43 - sumitted 29 October 2012

Tranche 43 was submitted on 29 October 2012 and formally ratified by Defra 31 October 2012

* The sites for the Annex 1 habitat 6210 Semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous substrates (Festuco-Brometalia) are priority if they contain important orchid sites. The UK in previous submissions has used a code of 6211 for these priority subtypes. In this submission the priority subtype has been re- coded as 6210 to conform with the EU wide standard coding system. Priority subtypes are identified in section 4.2 of the Natura 2000 Standard Data Form.

In the case of cSACs with only replotted or reprojected GIS data, these changes do not affect the site boundaries, although in some cases (particularly for large sites) the stated site area may have changed since the previous submission, due to differences in the projection and/or improved accuracy. All the cSACs resubmitted with replotted or reprojected GIS data were in Wales.

Tranche 24 - submitted 5 March 2003

This tranche comprised one new cSAC, one major extension to an existing cSAC, and 11 sites with minor amendments:

In the case of cSACs with only reprojected GIS data, these changes do not affect the site boundaries, although in some cases (particularly for large sites) the stated site area may have changed since the previous submission, due to differences in the projection. All the cSACs resubmitted with reprojected GIS data were in Wales.

Tranche 23 - submitted 15 January 2003

This tranche comprised one new cSAC and 21 sites with minor amendments:

In the case of cSACs with only reprojected GIS data, these changes do not affect the site boundaries, although in some cases (particularly for large sites) the stated area may have changed since the previous submission, due to differences in the projection. All the cSACs resubmitted with reprojected GIS data were in Wales, or were cross-border English Welsh sites.

Tranche 22 - submitted 25 October 2002

This tranche comprised three new cSACs, significant extensions to two existing cSACs, minor boundary amendments to eight cSACs and data amendments (not affecting boundaries) to two further cSACs:

In addition, 45 other cSACs were resubmitted with changes to their feature data and/or reprojected GIS data. These changes do not affect the site boundaries, although in some cases (particularly for large sites) the stated site area may have changed since the previous submission, due to differences in the projection. All the cSACs resubmitted with reprojected GIS data were in Wales, or cross-border English/Welsh sites.
