Five harbour porpoise SACs, proposed and consulted on in 2016, have been approved by relevant UK Governments and submitted to the European Commission.

Irish Sea Front pSPA

JNCC has launched a public consultation, running from Monday 23 January until 20 April 2017, on the Irish Sea Front marine potential Special Protection Area. The aim of this pSPA is to provide protection to an important foraging area of breeding Manx shearwaters.

JNCC has launched a public consultation on a boundary amendment to the Croker Carbonate Slabs cSAC/SCI. New evidence gathered shows the Annex I habitat, for which the MPA was originally submitted, occurs outside of the existing boundary site.

SPA Consultation

Liverpool Bay / Bae Lerpwl marine potential Special Protection Area

A consultation on a marine potential Special Protection Area (pSPA) has been launched - the expansion of the existing Liverpool Bay / Bae Lerpwl SPA. The proposal will extend the SPA towards the north and the west to incorporate areas which are important for little gulls during the winter months. The consultation will close 8 February 2017.
