EU Habitats Directive Reporting

Every six years, Member States of the European Union are required to report on implementation of the Habitats Directive, under Article 17 of the Directive.  This reporting provides information on:

  • the general implementation of the Directive; and
  • the conservation status of individual habitats and species listed under the Annexes of the Directive.

Three UK reports have been submitted to the European Commission:

  • First UK Report - this was submitted in 2001 and provided an analysis of implemention of the Directive between 1994 and 2000, focussing on work on the selection of Special Areas of Conservation;
  • Second UK Report - this was submitted in 2007 and provided a first assessment of the conservation status of relevant habitats and species within the UK during 2001-2006;
  • Third UK Report - this was submitted in 2013 and provided a second assessment of the conservation status of relevant habitats and species within the UK during 2007-2012.
